I like to think that maybe one day you'll be an old man like me, talking a younger man's ear off, explaining to him how you took the sourest lemon that life has to offer and turned it into something resembling lemonade. If you can do that, then you will still be... taking three babies home from this…

I don't need anniversaries to see you. I see you every day. You are my daily meteor shower.
My dad put on a tie every day because he had to. I put one on every day because I want to. It’s important you know that. Maybe I don’t run into burning buildings for a living, but to me, my work is challenging and exciting. I will not apologize for the fact that it’s hard to explain to people.

You deserve it. You deserve the beautiful life you’ve made. You deserve everything, Randall. My beautiful boy. My son. I haven’t had a happy life. Bad breaks. Bad choices. A life of almosts and could-haves. Some would call it sad, but I don’t. ‘Cause the two best things in my life were the person in…

It feels like all these beautiful pieces of life are flying around me and I’m trying to catch them. When my granddaughter falls asleep in my lap, I try to catch the feeling of her breathing against me. And when I make my son laugh, I try to catch the sound of him laughing. How it rolls up from his c…

I painted this because I felt like the play was about life, you know? And life is full of color. And we each get to come along and we add our own color to the painting, you know? And even though it’s not very big, the painting, you sort of have to figure that it goes on forever, you know, in each di…

You got to own your choices, boys. Choose them fully and don’t look back.
Thank you. For doing what I couldn’t. For raising him to be the man he is. I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you, brother. I would have liked to have heard that laugh. I would have liked to have met my son’s father.

No. No, come on, that’s BS. You don’t do that to your family. You find your soul mate, you get married, you stay together until you die, period.
Sometimes, in marriage, someone has to be the one to push to make the big moves.

The hardest part, Carl, about seeing someone you love in pain is not being able to do anything about it, except try not to make it worse.

I got this at a very hopeless time in my life. Someone very special gave it to me back in Vietnam. It’s a Buddhist symbol of purpose. I was feeling very lost when I got that. But I put it on and I moved forward. And you know when I was wearing it? The day you were born. The moment you came out, my n…

I just keep thinking about my wife and how I just want to get home to her, hang out with her, make sure she’s okay. Which is crazy, because she’s at her absolute worst right now. I mean, like, Exorcist level bad. But I still don’t want to escape her. Or my future vomiting, crap-riddled kids. I just,…

No. It’s not your job to make me feel better. It’s not. It’s my job. It’s my job to keep standing there with my arms wide open, waiting for you to maybe someday fall inside if you needed it. And if you do, I’ll love you. And if you don’t, I’ll love you, too. Because that’s what it means to be a pare…
