Wins and losses come a dime a dozen. But effort? Nobody can judge effort. Effort is between you and you. Effort ain’t got nothing to do with nobody else. So that team that think they ready to seen you? They think what they seen on film. They ain’t saw what film shows. Because every day is a new day.…

Raymond Anthony 'Ray' Lewis Jr. (born May 15, 1975) is a former American football linebacker, who played all of his 17-year professional career for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He previously played college football for the University of Miami, and earned All-America honors. Lewis was drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft, and, upon his retirement following the 2012 season, he was the last remaining active player from the team's inaugural season. Lewis played middle linebacker his entire career, and is considered to be one of the greatest ever to play the position. He was a 13-time Pro Bowler, 10-time Associated Press All-Pro, and one of the few players in NFL history to play in a Pro Bowl in three different decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s). He is also considered to be the greatest Baltimore Raven of all-time. Lewis pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in connection with the stabbing deaths of two men in 2000. The following season, he won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and led the Ravens' record-setting defense to a Super Bowl XXXV victory. Lewis also became the second linebacker to win the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award, and the first to win the award on the winning Super Bowl tea
To be the best and stay there, sweat is necessary.
I prepare so no one can take what is mine, no one can replace my mind, my heart.
The greatest opportunity in the world is found here today.…We already know what yesterday has got for us. It’s already gone. Tomorrow, too far away. What about right now?

There's one secret to hitting hard, and that is to completely dedicate your body. That's the difference between a man going forward and a man going backward, no matter how big he is.
I don't know a man on this Earth who can outwork me.
As men we are built a certain way—to not share our feelings. Most of these guys I play with have pain they won't share with nobody, so what I do is share mine first. I tell them a little bit of what I've been through. That kind of breaks them down. And once you've discussed these things, it opens up…
I asked my mom for a deck of cards. She said, ‘Boy, you know I don't allow no gambling.’ I was like, ‘Ma, it ain't about that.’ I would go into my room—I lived in the garage at the time—and flip the deck up. If the card was a six, I'd do six push-ups. Then if the next card was a face card, I'd do…
My stepfather was a very abusive person. He used to put bruises on my mom's face, and I still have a scar on my forehead from when I got thrown into a bed rail. When I was nine, we had gotten into an altercation with him, and I told my mom, ‘One day you will never have to worry about a man hitting…
Because a football game is just sixty minutes, but I'm training six, seven hours in every day. So, going for sixty minutes becomes easy. More importantly, I think that your muscles mature and can move in all different directions.
I don't train for football; I train more for a lifestyle.
My mom is probably my biggest hero. My grandmother. My grandfather, who passed. I had a roommate who passed who was one of my heroes. If I can choose another word, I call them my angels—people who really loved you for you and looked out for you and, when you didn’t realize it, were praying for you.
I love my family. My kids are freakin’ awesome. I just love being Daddy, my daughter jumping on me, my sons punching me. I love laying in mama’s house, being silly, scaring people, pouring water on people—that’s one of my go-tos. You can’t come visit me and doze off while everybody’s sitting there.…
My mom calls me an older soul because, growing up, she taught me stuff real early. Now I spend most of my time chasing wisdom, chasing understanding.…There’s always one way or another I’m trying to get better. It comes with an understanding of where I’m trying to go, not where I am.
I honor God that much in the way I play. That's why I never believe in getting tired. I don't even know what that word means.
