Call Me By Your Name is a love story; it’s also a heartbreak story. It’s a coming of age movie about a teen boy, Elio Perlman (Timothee Chalamet), who falls in love for the first time with his father’s student who’s staying with their family for the summer, Oliver (Armie Hammer). Set in a beautiful villa in the Northern Italian countryside, Elio begins to understand himself and his wants in a new way, while also learning what it means to connect emotionally, intellectually, and physically with another human, especially when he doesn’t always know the words to put to his experiences.
The film is full of beautiful shots of the lush Italian countryside and somehow manages to capture even the most minute emotion that passes between Elio and Oliver, allowing the audience to feel what isn’t always said. That being said, there’s still a lot of beautiful dialogue between the characters—so here are this 10 best quotes from Call Me By Your Name:
1.
Mr. Perlman (Michael Stuhlbarg): When you least expect it, nature has cunning ways of finding our weakest spot.

2.
Oliver (Armie Hammer): Later!
3.
Mrs. Perlman (Amira Casar): A handsome young knight is madly in love with a princess, and she too is in love with him, though she seems not to be entirely aware of it. Despite the friendship that blossoms between them, or perhaps because of that very friendship, the young knight finds himself so humbled and speechless that he is totally unable to bring up the subject of his love—until one day, he asks the princess point-blank: Is it better to speak or to die?
Elio (Timothee Chalamet): I’ll never have the courage to ask a question like that.
4.
Oliver (Armie Hammer): Is there anything you don’t know?
Elio (Timothee Chalamet): I know nothing, Oliver.
Oliver: Well, you seem to know more than anyone else around here.
Elio: Well, if only you knew how little I really know about the things that matter.
Oliver: What things that matter?
Elio: You know what things.
Oliver: Why are you telling me this?
Elio: Because I thought you should know.
Oliver: Because you thought I should know?
Elio: Because I wanted you to know.
5.

People who read are hiders. They hide who they are. People who hide don’t always like who they are.
– Marzia (Esther Garrel),

6.
Oliver (Armie Hammer): Call me by your name and I’ll call you by mine.
7.
Elio (Timothee Chalamet): I’m sick, aren’t I?
Oliver (Armie Hammer): I wish everyone was as sick as you.
8.
Mr. Perlman (Michael Stuhlbarg): We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to make yourself feel nothing, so as not to feel anything? What a waste.
9.
Mr. Perlman (Michael Stuhlbarg): I may have come close, but I never had what you two have. Something always held me back or stood in the way. How you live your life is your business. Just remember, our hearts and our bodies are given to us only once, and before you know it your heart’s worn out, and as for your body, there comes a point when no one wants to look at it, much less wants to come near it. Right now, there’s sorrow, pain. Don’t kill it and with it the joy you’ve felt.
10.
Elio (Timothee Chalamet): Elio. Elio, Elio, Elio, Elio, Elio, Elio, Elio.
Oliver (Armie Hammer): Oliver. I remember everything.
